Summary
Students undertake a full-time research placement in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries, or in a research institute/university laboratory, either in the UK or overseas
In this module the student will produce a written report in the form of a dissertation

- 80% Coursework 1: 5,000 word dissertation
- 20% Presentation 1: Viva voce examination

Educational Aims
To complete a research project and produce a project report in the form of a dissertation.Learning Outcomes
1. Intellectual skills
Students should be able to:
- demonstrate a good understanding of the organisation, administration and reporting of scientific research in their host company/institution
- demonstrate a good understanding of the practice of research in an industrial laboratory or other commercial environment or in a research institution
- report and explain in writing and through oral presentation the specialist knowledge and expertise gained during their placement
- recognise and apply the practical skills gained during the placement to their future career
2. Professional / practical skills
- Students should be able to complete a research project and produce a report that explains the aims of the project, the background to the project, the methods used, the results obtained or other outcomes, and the value of the project to their host.
3. Transferable / key skills
Students should be able to:
- Communicate complex written information to a non-specialist audience
- Demonstrate self-management in the completion of a written project
- Show advanced levels of information technology literacy
