Summary
This module considers:
i. Furthering the development of the students understanding of the anatomy and physiology and the effect of pathologies on the cardio-respiratory systems, including a visit to the department of human morphology.
ii. Exploration of the role of the physiotherapist as part of a multi-professional team in a variety of speciality areas e.g. burns, palliative care, cystic fibrosis, on-call situations, critical care and neuro-muscular diseases.
iii. The ability to problem solve, develop clinical reasoning skills and draw from/reflect on previous clinical experience will be explored in case scenarios.
iv. Critical evaluation of the recent advances, current practice and literature that underpin the rationale for medical/surgical management and physiotherapy rehabilitation of patients with cardio-respiratory disease.

- 100% Report: 2000-word essay based on patient case study

Educational Aims
This module aims to provide the student with a greater insight into the problems, presentation and therapeutic management of patients with cardio-respiratory disease. It aims to build on their understanding and knowledge gained from the Semester III module and from their clinical education modulesLearning Outcomes
Discuss the complexities of cardio-respiratory conditions and how they inter-relate
Demonstrate knowledge of the roles of the cardio-respiratory physiotherapist and the roles of other members of the multi-professional team involved in the care of people with cardio-respiratory conditions
Understand the psychological impact of having a cardio-respiratory condition on the persona and their family/caregivers
Justify and select appropriate management plan for a person with a cardio-respiratory condition
Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning skills with reference to supporting evidence for the management of people with cardio-respiratory conditions
Reflect clinical experience of managing people with cardio-respiratory conditions and identify areas of development for managing this population
