Summary
This module introduces students to key contemporary debates and practices, giving them a chance to engage with these debates and practices. Students will gain an understanding of the human resource management approaches managers take as they grapple with the challenges of the global economy and a demanding and diverse workforce within an international context.
Target Students
Available to Y2 or Y3 Business School students and students on BA Geography with Business and BA Modern Languages with Business, who have studied/are studying BUSI2173 Human Resource Management with International Perspectives AND EITHER BUSI1029 Organisational Behaviour OR BUSI1030 Work & Society. Also available to Exchange students.

Classes
- One 2-hour seminar
- One 1-hour-30-minute lecture each week for 11 weeks

Educational Aims
To enable students to build on their knowledge of HRM and OB to think more critically about the recent developments in the subject, both in terms of theoretical developments and how organisations are dealing with change.Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
This module develops a knowledge and understanding of:
• The dynamic and changing nature of business and the consideration of the future of organisations within the global business environment, including the management of risk
• Leadership, management and development of people including the implications of the legal context
• Leadership, management and development of organisations including the implications of the legal context
• The development of appropriate policies and strategies within a changing environment to meet stakeholder interests
• The need for individuals and organisations to manage responsibly and sustainably and behave ethically in relation to social, cultural, economic and environmental issues
• The design, development of organisations, including cross-cultural issues, change, diversity and values
Intellectual skills
This module develops:
• The ability to analyse facts and circumstances to determine the cause of a problem and identifying and selecting appropriate solutions
• Conceptual and critical thinking, analysis, synthesis and evaluation

This module develops:
• Self-analysis and awareness/sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and cultures. This includes a continuing appetite for development.
