Educational Aims
The aims of the module are to provide students with:An introduction to the cardiovascular systemA basic understanding of the gastrointestinal system and nutritionAn introduction to the nervous systemA basic understanding of the musculoskeletal system An introduction to the reproductive systemA basic understanding of the excretory systemLearning Outcomes
a. Knowledge and understanding:
At the end of this module the student should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- Gross and histological anatomy and function of the mammalian cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, nervous, excretory and reproductive systems.
b. Intellectual skills:
At the end of this module the student should be able to demonstrate:
- The ability to integrate information from skeletal models and dissected specimens and relate these to living organisms.
c. Professional and practical skills:
At the end of this module the student should be able to demonstrate:
- Basic dissection skills.
- The correct use of anatomical nomenclature and terminology.
d. Transferable (key) Skills:
At the end of this module the student should be able to:
- Develop learning and study techniques which promote life-long learning, and understand different methods of teaching and learning.
- Demonstrate competence in a range of IT skills.
- Learn to search for, select and use information to solve problems and make decisions.
