Summary

VETS4025 Clinical Reasoning and Reporting.
This module extends throughout the second year of study.
The module covers:
•    Aligning clinical knowledge with subjective and objective signs.
•    Generation of treatment plans.
•    Evaluation of case progression.
•    The use of the SOAP protocol for reports.

Target Students

Restricted to students registered on the veterinary physiotherapy programme only. There is a limited number of places on this module. Students are reminded that enrolments which are not agreed by the Offering School in advance may be cancelled without notice.

Educational Aims

In VETS4025 you will focus on methods of collecting, collating and analysing patient data to prepare feedback reports to the veterinary surgeon. The module also addresses clinical reasoning and critical evaluation of treatment outcomes by comparison with current theories and studies.

Learning Outcomes

(a) Knowledge and Understanding

Demonstrate the alignment of clinical knowledge with subjective and objective signs to generate an assessment of the case.

Reduce an assessment to a problem list that is linked to available therapies.

(b) Intellectual Skills

Collect, organize and critically evaluate historical and clinical case data.

Produce summaries of the progress of treatment for communication to allied professionals and the animal owners.

(c) Professional Practical Skills

Assess the initial practical delivery of a treatment plan and be able to modify the plan without deviating from the clinical aims.

Critically re-evaluate the effectiveness of applied treatment strategies with regard to the comparison of expected and actual outcomes.

(d) Transferrable (Key) Skills

Reflect on case outcomes as a way of improving professional progression.
