Summary

This module provides an applied, critical and informed understanding of the concepts and processes of globalisation and Europeanisation, and the impact of globalisation and Europeanisation upon governance and public policy. In particular, it examines the impacts of globalisation and Europeanisation upon the governance of and the making of public policy in Britain and other countries.

Target Students

Available to all PGT and PGR students including subsidiary students from outside the school. Also available to Postgraduate Exchange students. SOCI4059 cannot be taken if students are taking/have taken SOCI4017.

This module is taught through a combination of lectures and seminars.

Educational Aims

The aims of the module are:To reflect critically upon the meanings and practices of globalisation.To reflect critically upon the meanings and practices of Europeanisation.To examine the causes and impacts of globalisation and Europeanisation upon governance and public policy.To examine the processes and structures of governance, and their consequent implications for making public policy.To offer students opportunities to undertake a focused case study on the impact globalization and Europeanisation has upon Public Policy.
