Summary
The module will provide an introduction to the application of economic theories and concepts to policy analysis and provide an overview of public sector economics and of current issues in public sector economic analysis. Topics covered include competition and market failure/externalities, public goods, discount rates and cost benefit analysis. Although focused on the UK, other countries will be discussed as a way of further understanding the ongoing policy developments.
The module is designed for 'non-mathematicians' and does not involve any econometric analyses. No prior knowledge of economics is required.
Target Students
Available to all PGT or PGR students including subsidiary students from outside the school. Also available to Postgraduate Exchange students.
Classes
This module is taught through a combination of lectures and seminars.

Educational Aims
To introduce students to the economic theories and concepts that are applied in policy analysis. The module will also provide students with opportunities to examine (ongoing) debates on public sector economics.Learning Outcomes

The method of teaching will be based on developing students’ understanding through the application of knowledge and skills development. Recent policies will be used to encourage debate.
