Summary
This module considers psychological theories, concepts and applications. It will cover the following core areas of psychology:
Freud and defence mechanisms
Psychosexual stages of development
Gender development and Evaluation of Freud’s theory
Evidence of practice: Evaluation of the Psychodynamic Approach
Predicting Behaviour and Individual
Biological rhythms, sleep and dreaming
Stress
Comparative Psychology, Evolutionary Psychology and Neuroethology
Individual differences and abnormality
Psychopathology
Eating disorder
Target Students
Students enrolled in the Malaysian Campus, Foundation in Science Programme
Classes
- One 1-hour tutorial each week for 5 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 10 weeks
Assessment
- 40% Assignment: Assignment
- 60% Final Exam (1-hour-30-minute): Final Exam

Educational Aims
This module is designed to introduce three approaches in psychology; the Psychodynamic Approach, Biological and Clinical Psychology.Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
CLO1 - Recognize and recall the concepts in specific areas of Psychology
CLO2 - Describe and evaluate theories, research and arguments by others in specific areas of Psychology
CLO3 - Assess findings of both qualitative and quantitative research, and its applications by society and individuals
