This module provides the basic concept of computer communication and network. Lectures will provide the theoretical base for the subject, including:

Network communications standards and protocols
Network Model: The OSI Model
Transmission Basics and Networking Media
Wireless Transmission Media
Repeater, Hub, Switch, Bridge & Router
System Architecture - Intro to TCP/IP model
Communication devices
Network Security
The Future of Communications & Network

Students enrolled in the Malaysian Campus, Foundation in Science Programme
Classes
- Two 2-hour workshops each week for 2 weeks
- Two 2-hour lectures each week for 8 weeks
Assessment
- 20% Assignment 1: 5000 words
- 20% Assignment 2: 5000 words
- 60% Exam (1-hour-30-minute)
