Summary

This module develops a critical understanding of key issues in the interaction between patients and health care contexts.  These include: 

a) Patient-centered care 
b) communication in health care settings including developing rapport & trust and non-verbal communication
c) the impact of hospitalisation on adults / children
d) preparation for stressful medical/ dental procedures
e) giving bad news and death, dying and bereavement
f) adherence to treatment advice/regimens

Educational Aims

This module aims to provide students with a critical understanding of key issues in the interaction between patients and health care contexts and the role of psychology in assessing, evaluating and improving the nature of this interaction and of health outcomes.
