Summary
This module invites students to critically engage with front-line material on major contemporary topics in developmental psychology covering the broad spectrum of research, including social, emotional, biological and cognitive development.
The module also introduces students to a wider context of topics around developmental disorders such as diversity, inclusion, cultural issues, and theoretical perspectives on development. It critically examines core theories and research in developmental psychology and discusses various research that have their roots in long-standing theories of developmental psychology.

Classes
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 10 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 8 weeks
UK Module Convenor Nicola Pitchford 7 UK recorded lectures will be used, supported by UNM Psychology Academic Staff, and 1 Malaysia recorded lecture by UNM Psychology academic staff will be used. All other 10-week lecture/discussion sessions will be done by UNM Psychology Academic Staff.

Educational Aims
The primary objective is to critically explore core areas of developmental psychology, informing students of cutting-edge research findings as well as equipping students with an ability to present a summary of research to an audience, to critically evaluate research and to defend a theoretical position.Learning Outcomes
At the end of the module students should be able to:
- Identify major contemporary themes in developmental psychology
- Compose a synthesis of published work linked with a major theme in developmental psychology
- Understand the broader educational and social context in which developmental disorders are researched
- Be able to discuss contemporary topics in developmental psychology via written and oral communications
- Be able to reply to critiques from peers and present an argument
