Summary
This module provides students with the knowledge to be able to select, administer, score, interpret, and provide feedback on educational tests of the kind used when assessing individuals with learning difficulties. They will learn about the advantages and disadvantages of different types of assessment and how to make decisions about test selection for assessments. Students will gain an understanding of test theory including the concepts of reliability, validity and the standardization of tests. The module will provide a skill set that will be useful to students completing their project in which they may have to administer psychometric tests. It will also be useful to students wishing to pursue a career in education or educational psychology.

Classes
- One 2-hour workshop each week for 10 weeks
- One 2-hour un assigned each week for 10 weeks
All lecture recordings from the UK will be used, supported by UNM Psychology Academic Staff. The seminars will be done by UNM Psychology Academic Staff.
Assessment
- Quiz: 3 formative MCQ Quizzes
- 15% Test: 1 summative MCQ test
- 10% Mini essay: 1000 words
- 20% Test review: 1500 words
- 5% Observation: Assessed individual test simulation
- 50% Final report: 4000 words

Educational Aims
To give students a comprehensive grounding in the principles of psychological assessment. This will allow students to go on to become assessors of individuals with developmental psychopathology and will enable students to make judgements about assessment usage in practice and research settings.Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will:
- Understand the different categories of educational tests and methods of assessment.
- Understand the advantages and disadvantages of these different types of assessment.
- Be able to select and administering educational tests.
- Be able to record results, interpret test outcomes, give feedback and make decisions about the use of test results.
- Understand theories of intelligence and the rationale for choosing particular tests.
- Understand the principles of test standardization and scaling of scores.
- Be able to interpret test scores in relation to norms.
- Understand the properties of psychometric tests including the concepts of reliability and validity.
