Summary
Students will choose a topic in consultation with the MSci Course Convenor and an appropriate supervisor. The topic will normally be based on interests and skills students have developed in the course of the modules already studied.
Target Students
Students registered on the MSci Psychology programme.
Classes
- One 1-hour seminar each week for 20 weeks
A two hour lecture in the first week, followed by two hours per week office hours support
Assessment
- 100% Coursework 1: 10,000 word dissertation
Assessed by end of spring semester
Educational Aims
This module will provide students with:• The opportunity to research in depth a topic of their choice, under the direction of a subject specialist• The skills and methodologies required to carry out sustained independent research.Learning Outcomes
- Knowledge and understanding of a selected issue involving systematic analysis of a form of everyday behaviour, or an associated psychological issue.
- Demonstrate knowledge of relevant research methods and paradigms.
- Use evidence-based reasoning to establish merit of competing theories and methods to account for action structure.
- Handle primary source material critically.
- Show responsibility for own skill development though independent reading.
- Produce written work showing clear communication of ideas and research findings.
- Locate library resources by electronic and conventional means.
- Appropriately interpret findings of specific behavioural analyses.
- Show ability to organise and integrate a range of information.
- Produce well-organised written work.
- Show ability to perform effective literature research.
Transferable skills
Students will develop the ability:
• to work independently and with some degree of originality or creative.
