Summary
This module will present a variety of current topics in relation to neuropsychology including the etiology, diagnosis and treatment of different abnormal cognitive disorders. Students will attend a series of lectures on these topics.
Target Students
BSc Psychology / BSc Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience students at UNM.
Classes
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 12 weeks
Further Activity Details: The lectures will cover advanced and current topics associated with neuropsychology including dissociations, visual processing disorders, dementia, diagnostic criteria and cross-cultural issues. Students will be required to actively participate in the lectures by responding to some in-class questions. A field trip to Rehabilitation Hospital will also be arranged to provide experiential learning to students.
Assessment
- 100% EXAM 1 (1-hour-30-minute): 1.5 hour ExamSys exam. Students will have to answer questions relating to a case study and MCQs

Educational Aims
To provide students with in-depth up-to-date knowledge about issues in relation to research on neuropsychology and some associated conditions e.g. Prosopagnosia, Alzheimer’s disease, Hemi-spatial neglect, aphasia.Learning Outcomes
1) Knowledge and Understanding - Students will develop knowledge of a range of up-to-date areas of neuropsychology and related research.
2) Knowledge and Understanding – Students will develop knowledge about some of the major contemporary issues in the wider field of neuropsychology, such as with tools for diagnosis, diagnostic criteria, and intervention.
3) Intellectual skills – Students will be able to critically evaluate psychological research and theories.
4) Intellectual skills –Students will be able to evaluate the current neuropsychology tests available.
5) Professional/practical skills – Students will be able to express and communicate complex ideas and theories using technical language.
