Educational Aims
To provide students with an understanding of the findings of, and theories derived from, experimental studies of social processes and human development. To provide knowledge about: social cognition and social thinking; attribution; self and identity; attitudes; persuasive communication and attitude change; social influence; conformity and obedience; people in groups: social facilitation; people in groups: cohesiveness and norms; intergroup behaviour; prejudice and discrimination; aggression; theories of attraction and relationships; prosocial behaviour; language and communication; culture; intrinsic motivation and self-determination; social bases of motivation and emotion; research methods in social psychologyLearning Outcomes
Learning outcomes:
1. Demonstrate a critical understanding of theories of processes and how these may be applied in the real world;
2. Demonstrate an ability to apply social psychological theories to explain behavioural processes
3. Demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to critique, research methods and paradigms that are used in the study of social processes;
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the use of empirical evidence and hypothesis testing in developing the disciplines of social psychology.
