Summary
The Research Project in Applied Psychology is an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge and skills that they have learnt during their course. It is an independent piece of work that will be supported by a supervisor and peers. There are two forms of project that are typically undertaken: a piece of field research, a quasi-experimental study in an applied context. The supervisor will advise students and monitorthe progress of their projects, and provide advice in finding an sample for them to conduct their study. Students will be expected to use what they have learned in their research methods modules for their analyses. Students are not expected to require more than 15 hours of supervision. As this is the students final piece of work before completing their course, our aim is to encourage their confidence in working independently.
Research projects will be organised along research themes important to the Institute and relevant to the degree course in question. A summary of the research interests within the Institute is provided in the Project Themes booklet. Sometimes students develop their own research proposals, which are not based on these themes. Wherever possible, the Institute's teaching team will endeavour to supervise such projects.
