Summary
Target Students
2nd year BSc (Honours) Applied Psychology and Management students, 2nd year Business students, 2nd and 3rd year BSc Psychology students. This module has been particularly identified as suitable for second year students including those from other schools
Classes
- One 2-hour tutorial each week for 12 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 12 weeks
2 hour tutorials x 3 throughout the semester
Assessment
- 60% Coursework: 3000 words Individual essay on entrepreneurship and innovation issues
- 40% Presentation: 15 mins group presentation that requires the development and assessment of an innovative/ creative idea

Educational Aims
This module provides an understanding of the psychological side of entrepreneurship and innovation. It covers general topics such as entrepreneurial cognition, opportunity recognition and exploitation, creativity, creative problem solving, entrepreneurial motivation. It also cover specialist topics like innovativeness, organisational culture and environments and innovationLearning Outcomes
- Recognise the theoretical underpinnings within areas of research and practice in the psychology of entrepreneurship and innovation ;
- Understand how theory and research can be used to generate practical advice and interventions in everyday life
- Display the cognitive skills of critical thinking, analysis and synthesis - including the ability to identify assumptions and define terms;
- Strategically apply applied psychology models to entrepreneurial and innovative process;
- Be equipped to conduct research into entrepreneurship and innovation issues, either independently or as part of a team; demonstrate self-awareness, openness and sensitivity to diversity in terms of people, cultures, business and management issues and to use effective oral and written communication skills in varying contexts.
