Target Students
1st year students in BSc Applied Psychology and Management only
Classes
- One 2-hour tutorial each week for 6 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 26 weeks
Assessment
- 25% Coursework 1: Workbook
- 25% Coursework 2: Research Report 2000 words
- 50% Exam 1 (2-hour)

Educational Aims
To provide an integrative approach to psychology through the use of scientific method, enabling students to critically assess previous research and to design conduct, analyse, and report their own studies. This course is designed to equip students with appropriate procedures for describing data statistically and qualitatively. By the end of the module, students should be able to:1. Select and conduct simple statistical hypothesis procedures2. Appreciate the importance of qualitative research in real world settings and decide when a research topic requires a qualitative research methods3. Draw appropriate conclusion from statistical results4. Conduct interviews, facilitate focus groups and archival research, and analyse qualitative dataLearning Outcomes

1. The theoretical underpinnings of areas of research and practice in applied psychology

1. Effective quantitative and qualitative problem solving and decision making skills
2. The ability to conduct research into applied psychology and/or business and management issues, either individually or as part of a team
