Summary
Students will continue to develop the format of their dissertation i.e. empirical research project, modified systematic review, audit/service evaluation, critical review or clinical project.
Target Students
MSc Physiotherapy students.
Classes
Specific class activities led by the course lead will be timetabled through the year covering the development of research topic and supporting the write up of the dissertation. Up to 600 hours for this course are apportioned as follows: Dissertation supervision 6 hours private/independent study 580 hours Dissertation class activities 14 hours
Assessment
- 100% Dissertation: Students will submit a dissertation of between 12,000 and 15,000 words.

The aim of the course is to further develop the research capabilities of the students in the field of physiotherapy.Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding of contemporary policy developments and practice initiatives within the field of physiotherapy and health care.
The process of developing a research question, with regard to epistemology, methods and application.
Knowledge and understanding of ways in which established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge to improve physiotherapy and health care practice.

Critically reflect on previous experiential learning in a systematic and structured fashion
Systematically identify, evaluate and critically appraise research and other forms of evidence informing physiotherapy and health care practice.

Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving challenging situations through completing a substantial research or practice improvement project.
