Summary
An introduction to the concepts of public health and health promotion specifically for sport rehabilitators. Definitions of health and ill-health will be introduced with an overview of contemporary health care systems. Models of health promotion to address public health issues will be considered in the context of sport and exercise promotion. Students will undertake a project whilst volunteering in the wider community in a health and wellbeing, or rehabilitation setting. They will utilise contemporary evidence to acquire knowledge and skills within the area, which they will then use to plan a relevant intervention or activity relevant to health promotion.

Educational Aims
This course aims to develop students' knowledge and understanding of public health and health promotion. It aims to encourage their direct involvement in a health promotion initiative in the community by completing a period of voluntary work that is related to the use of physical activity to improve health. The aim is to enhance their understanding of the contribution sport rehabilitation can have on the health and wellbeing of the wider population.The course will also develop students’ ability to self-direct their learning in an area of interest whilst engaging with and benefitting the wider community. Students will make a significant contribution to a small project on a health and/or physical activity related theme. Communication, time management and inter-professional skills will be further developed in an environment of choice for the student.Learning Outcomes
