Educational Aims
The general aim of the dissertation is to allow the student to pursue systematically and in depth a personal interest in a particular topic.The aims of the project are to provide the student with the opportunity to:• produce an individual and substantial piece of work, over an extended period of time, related to an area of interest associated with the field of physiotherapy or sport rehabilitation• experience working in close collaboration with a supervisory tutor on the basis of a shared subject area of interest• undertake work which will encourage individual thought, initiative and resourcefulness• apply investigative, critical and analytical skills by evaluating a topic area related to physiotherapy or sport rehabilitation• enhance the ability to communicate effectively the research process and outcome• produce a piece of work which may serve as a foundation for study leading to further researchLearning Outcomes
Select or identify an area of study worthy of investigation.
Identify issues, questions and problems inherent in the selected topic, together with rationale for the choice of theme.
Critically review the literature relating to the topic, leading to detailed specification of the aims and objectives of the project.
Formulate methods of enquiry appropriate to the aims/hypothesis of the project.
Undertake the selected method of enquiry, to obtain data relevant to the aims/ objectives of the project.
Record and analyse the collected data in a logical and coherent manner (includes systematic reviews).
Discuss and evaluate the findings of the project in relation to the aims/hypothesis of the project and to previous work in the area.
Critically evaluate the work and identify areas for further investigation.
Discuss the implications of the project.
Produce a report of the project in the approved style outlined.
