Summary

An introduction to a variety of advanced training techniques, including but not limited to, power, SAQ (Speed, Agility and Quickness) and Olympic lifting, will be undertaken. Periodisation and its application to a strength and conditioning programme and rehabilitation from injury shall be reviewed in this course. A clinical reasoning approach is encouraged to enable the student to provide an evidence-based strength and conditioning periodised training programme.

Educational Aims

The aim of the course is todeveloptheir skills in exercise prescription for an athlete. The ability to design and implement an evidence-based strength and conditioning periodised training programme will be developed, alongside gaining knowledge of Olympic lifting, Speed Agility and Quickness (SAQ) and plyometric training.

Learning Outcomes

Discuss the underpinning theory of a variety of components of strength and conditioning

Critically evaluate the principles of periodisation on the development of a variety of strength and conditioning components

Synthesise a suitable strength and conditioning plan based on a model of periodisation and disseminate information to peers
