Summary
An introduction to a variety of advanced training techniques, including but not limited to, power, SAQ (Speed, Agility and Quickness) and Olympic lifting, will be undertaken. Periodisation and its application to a strength and conditioning programme and rehabilitation from injury shall be reviewed in this course. A clinical reasoning approach is encouraged to enable the student to provide an evidence-based strength and conditioning periodised training programme.
Target Students
Level 3 Sport Rehabilitation students
Classes
- Two 3-hour seminars each week for 3 weeks
- Two 3-hour lectures each week for 3 weeks
Assessment
- 100% Presentation: Individual Presentation 15 mins and 5 mins for questions

Educational Aims
The aim of the course is todeveloptheir skills in exercise prescription for an athlete. The ability to design and implement an evidence-based strength and conditioning periodised training programme will be developed, alongside gaining knowledge of Olympic lifting, Speed Agility and Quickness (SAQ) and plyometric training.Learning Outcomes
Discuss the underpinning theory of a variety of components of strength and conditioning
Critically evaluate the principles of periodisation on the development of a variety of strength and conditioning components
Synthesise a suitable strength and conditioning plan based on a model of periodisation and disseminate information to peers
