Summary
The focus of this course is:
- The acquisition of knowledge and skills in the management of individuals with a disability e.g wheelchair users, amputees, visually impaired, mental health, Cerebral Palsy. Key aspects of rehabilitation and performance enhancement in these groups will be considered.
Target Students
Level 3 Sport Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy students.
Classes
A combination of lectures, tutorials, blended learning and seminars (up to 100 hours).
Assessment
- 100% Presentation 1: Individual presentation of a case study - 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions.

Educational Aims
This course aims to prepare students to be able to work in disability sport. Medical and other specific disability related issues will be considered and any other special requirements when rehabilitating/enhancing sports performance in this client group.Learning Outcomes

Discuss issues surrounding participation in sport and exercise for individuals with a disability.
Discuss common categories within disability sport and the process of categorising competitors.
Intellectual Skills
Develop and evaluate screening protocols for individuals participating in disability sport.
Discuss the potential barriers to participation and inclusion for all in sport.
Professional Practical Skills
Undertake the assessment and management of individuals with an injury who participate in disability sport.
Transferable Skills
Demonstrate highly developed communication skills with a variety of clients.
