Summary
This module further develops the students understanding and knowledge of a range of rheumatological conditions. The nature, presentation and underlying pathophysiology is reviewed and the impact of rheumatological disease is discussed from a biopsychosocial viewpoint. The role of the multi-disciplinary team in the education and management of the patient is explored and physiotherapeutic assessment and treatment skills are developed. Critical discussion of the available evidence is promoted throughout. The weighted sum of all the assessment elements must be greater than 40% - compensatable.

1 day per week for 6 weeks
Assessment
- 100% Presentation 1: Presentation (15 mins & 5 mins Q) on a subject related to Rheumatology to be agreed with the module convenor. Presentation may be delivered remotely

Educational Aims
The module aims to build on the students’ existing knowledge of rheumatological conditions and consider the holistic management of the patient. It will draw and extend on the students’ skills of assessment, physiotherapeutic treatment and communicationLearning Outcomes
At the end of the module the students will be able to:
Knowledge and understanding
Rationalize the classification of rheumatological conditions and discuss the epidemiology, aetiology and patho-physiology associated with those conditions.
Consider and evaluate current developments in the management of rheumatological conditions including drug therapy, education and the role of the multi-disciplinary team, with particular reference to the role of the physiotherapist.
Reflect on the delivery of physiotherapy practice in the context of patient-centred care and will be able to relate this to the psycho-social needs of the patient.
Intellectual skills
Demonstrate judicious use of the best available information and evidence in the planning and management of rheumatological conditions.
Reflect on the role of the multi-disciplinary team in the management of patients with rheumatological conditions.
Professional practical skills
Adapt assessment and treatment skills for patients with rheumatological conditions.
Devise specific treatment plans and rehabilitation programmes including an educational component for patients with rheumatological conditions.
Set appropriate short and long term-goals for patients with rheumatological conditions.
