Summary
This module provides students with an opportunity to respond to an identified social, political or development problem by consideration of policy options, social mobilization and effective communication. The module aims to provide students with relevant skills for policy advocacy and social change.
Coverage: politics of language, rhetoric, policy studies, policy models, social movements, social change, resource mobilization, framing
Target Students
PHIR students Available to JYA/Erasmus students. Not available in session.
Classes
- One 3-hour lecture each week for 8 weeks
- One field studies each week for 2 weeks
A weekly two hour workshop will provide students with group and practical activities to develop skills relevant to module purpose. For example students will engage in Force Field Analysis, SWOTs, Social Matrix Building and Problem Tree analysis.
Assessment
- 60% Coursework 1: Policy or Strategy Analysis 3000 words
- 40% Coursework 2: Group Project (2000 words each) (individual contribution assessed)
