Summary
This is a module where students will spend six weeks off campus to various community pharmacy for placement. This module considers:
-The range of drugs and medicines available to treat various illnesses encountered in the community pharmacy. The main emphasis is on over the counter and prescribed medication.
-The patient with various illnesses, and the pharmacist’s interaction with them; OTC and prescribed medicines for the treatment of the illnesses, together with the clinical practice associated with these medicines.
-The development of study and learning skills appropriate for students of pharmacy in higher education, including independent learning and critical skills.
Assessment
- 10% Preceptor evaluation
- 20% Placement report
- 70% OSCE (24-hour)
Learning Outcomes
MLO1: Interpret prescription for drugs and medicines commonly used to treat various over the counter illnesses. (C3-Applying)
MLO2: Display the ability to communicate effectively, critical thinking and lifelong learning skills in patient counselling of the prescribed and over-the-counter medication. (A5-Characterisation)
