Summary
This module will deal with the toxic compunds, the effect of toxic compunds on the body organs such as liver, kidney, pulmonary etc. It develops teaching, assessment and presentation skills. The module takes also encompasses the mechanism of toxicity, drug abuse and monitoring. The module also intends to provide knowledge about pharmacogenomics and drug design using genomic applications for drug action and toxicity. Students will develop their problem solving skills and their abilities in toxicology, gentotyping, and pharmacogentics during the parctical and case studies sesion. This will also allow the students to develop critical thinking and decision-making, and team working. The course facilitates independent learning and helps students acquire advance clinical skills.
Assessment
- 20% Presentation
- 20% Lab reports
- 60% Written exam (2-hour)
Learning Outcomes
MLO1: Describe mechanisms, treatment, effect and management of the toxic compounds. (C5-Evaluating)
MLO2: Appraise the genotyping technologies, genetic variations with different drug responses in pharmacogenetics. (C5-Evaluating)
MLO3: Display effective communication skills, critical thinking skills, leadership skills and examine ethical implications in dealing with toxic substances and pharmacogenetics. (A3-Characterisation)
MLO4: Demonstrate skills in executing pharmacogenetic testing and their applications in the field of pharmacy. (P5-Complex Overt Responses)
