Summary
This module covers the structure and function of important biological molecules in human cells and of important metabolic processes that occur within cells.
Target Students
BPharm Year One students
Classes
- One 1-hour tutorial each week for 5 weeks
- Two 1-hour lectures each week for 12 weeks
Assessment
- 30% Examsys: Examsys (mid-term)
- 70% Examsys (1-hour-30-minute): Examsys (end term)
Educational Aims
This module gives an overview of the structure and function of important biological molecules in human cells and of important metabolic processes that occur within cells. This also includes an understanding of the structure and function of our genetic material. It is important that students realise the necessity of a detailed understanding of normal cellular processes in order to understand what goes wrong in human disease.Learning Outcomes
MLO1: Describe the structure and function of biologically important molecules including DNA, RNA and proteins. (C2-Understanding)
MLO2: Explain the molecular events that govern cell function. (C4-Analysing)
MLO3: Interpret the genetic disorders with biomedical significance. (C3-Applying)
