Summary

This module is concerned with modern aspects of human physiology providing an overview of all the major systems of the human body, where appropriate comparisons will be made with
other vertebrates. The module aims to provide a basic understanding of modern aspects of human physiology. The module will focus on 10 key systems including excitable tissues, the nervous system, endocrinology, the cardiovascular system, blood, respiration, the renal system, the gastrointestinal system, metabolism and reproduction, where appropriate aspects of comparative physiology will be introduced. Similarly we will explore some aspects of pharmacology where these issues enhance our understanding of human physiology.

Assessment

Learning Outcomes

MLO 1: Describe the physiology of humans with respect to 10 body systems using appropriate terminology. (C2-Understanding)
MLO 2: Describe the relationship between human physiology and other biological disciplines including comparative physiology and pharmacology where appropriate. (C2-Understanding)
MLO 3: Analyse human physiology laboratory practical limitations through systematic acquirement and effective processing of information. (C4-Analysing)
MLO 4: Demonstrate laboratory skills related to human physiology (P5-Complex overt response)
MLO 5: Evaluate results related to human physiological and diagnostic tests. (C5-Evaluating)
