Educational Aims
This courseaims to enable students to explore the implications of psychosocial influences on health and wellbeing for people across the age spectrum. This will contribute to their nursing practice by facilitating the students to assess health and health care needs, appraise health promotion interventions and facilitate choice and partnership working through the use of appropriate communication and interpersonal skills. In addition the student will consider how this might need to be adjusted when the individual has a cognitive impairmentLearning Outcomes
Appraise knowledge of how epidemiology, demography, genomics, psychological theory and sociological theory impact on the mental and physical health outcomes of people, families and communities
Critically appraise health promotion models in order to implement health promotion interventions with individuals providing culturally competent care across diverse settings
Analyse policy related to service provision, social justice and public health in order to consider implications for health and social care
Collaborate with people throughout the lifespan to facilitate choice and help them to manage and improve their current health and prevent further ill health making necessary adjustments for those with cognitive impairments
Promote respect, dignity, compassion, trust and integrity in care delivery to a diverse population recognising the potential for health inequalities
Develop an awareness of global health issues and healthcare policy and the potential impact on UK Care delivery
Critically examine factors within diverse populations that may lead to inequalities in health outcomes
