Summary
Students will be expected to work under supervision on a project of their choice related to their subject area. Students' research work will be supported by their allocated supervisor, Researcher Academy courses and the taught courses offered earlier in the programme.
Target Students
Postgraduate research students on the MA in Research Methods in Health Pathway.
Classes
1 x 1hour workshop per month, plus a minimum of 10 hours supervised contact time, plus independent study.
Assessment
- 100% Dissertation: 15,000 word dissertation

Educational Aims
The aim of the dissertation is for students to demonstrate that they have the research method skills and knowledge to enable the identification of a researchable question, develop a PhD research proposal, carry out a literature review and conduct a small empirical study.Learning Outcomes
1) A critical and reflexive understanding of the research and study designs that are carried out within health, and the social sciences.
2) Alternative epistemological positions within the disciplines that provide the context for theory construction, research design, and the selection of appropriate analytical techniques.
3) The kinds and, where appropriate, mix of data that are needed to address specific research questions
4) The ethical and political concerns that are implicit in a range of methodological approaches.
5) The capability to manage, conduct and disseminate research
6) Written communication skills
