Educational Aims

This course aims to enable students to explore the implications of psychosocial influences on health and wellbeing for people across the age spectrum. This will contribute to their nursing practice by facilitating the students to assess health and health care needs, appraise health promotion interventions and facilitate choice and partnership working through the use of appropriate communication and interpersonal skills. In addition the student will consider how this might need to be adjusted when the individual has a cognitive impairment.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate knowledge of how epidemiology, demography, genomics, psychological theory and sociological theory impact on the mental and physical health outcomes of people, families and communities.

Appraise health promotion models in order to implement health promotion interventions with individuals and groups in diverse settings.

Apply policy related to social justice and public health in order to consider implications for health and social care.

Work in collaboration with people throughout the lifespan to facilitate choice and help them to manage and improve their current health and prevent further ill health making necessary adjustments for those with cognitive impairments.

Promote respect, dignity, compassion, trust and integrity in care delivery to a diverse population recognising the potential for health inequalities.

Demonstrate an awareness of global health issues and the potential impact on UK Care delivery.
