Summary
This course considers:
- Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based nursing specific to the students’ field of practice (adult/ child/ mental health);
- Assessment and management of comorbidities. Implementation of evidence based nursing throughout the lifetime, including end of life care.

Educational Aims
This course aims to build upon the foundations of clinical learning established in year one of the BSc Nursing and will provide students with the opportunity to actively apply and develop theoretical knowledge in simulated clinical environments for exampleincluding end of life care and medicines optimisation. It will enable students, through simulation, to undertake patient assessment and formulate a plan of care to develop their understanding of effective evidence-based person centred care that underpins and informs clinical practice.Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate an understanding of the process of patient assessment, identifying potential signs of deterioration and formulating a care plan to manage identified needs.
Demonstrate knowledge of medicines optimisation, considering factors such as culture, ethnicity, diagnosis, social environment and health beliefs in relation to administration and prescribing.
Demonstrate an understanding of the specialist and culturally appropriate care required at end of life, involving both the patient and their family/ carers.
Demonstrate the ability to perform nursing procedures and manage devices to effectively provide person centred care.
