Summary
This course facilitates learning linked to nursing skills required for effective nurse assessment, decision making and care delivery and management for each field of nursing using a variety of learning activities from a holistic perspective working with the person or child and significant contacts. There is an emphasis on evidence that informs nursing practice from an interprofessional perspective linked to safeguarding, harm minimisation, medicines administration, and identifying the deterioration of a child or person’s health mentally and physically. It encourages the student to begin developing the skills of advocacy, professional and personal resilience, and working in close partnership with those they care for.

Educational Aims
This course aims to consolidate and further build upon the essential clinical learning NURS1018 required to deliver safe and effective patient care.Learning Outcomes
Recognise changes in a person’s level of physical and/or emotional health and understand the knowledge and skills required to take prompt, appropriate actions to support the person, minimise further changes or reduce potential risks for the person or others.
Understand and demonstrate skills of undertaking appropriate person-centred, evidence-based assessments, assessing capacity, physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs and risks to inform clinical decisions, safeguard vulnerable people, plan appropriate nursing interventions and support making reasonable adjustments and ‘best interest’ decisions.
Articulate and demonstrate a professional approach to field specific nursing practice, in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses and midwives (NMC 2018) and to gain an understanding of factors which can impact upon decision making.
Through field specific simulations, develop culturally sensitive communication strategies for clients, patients, relatives, families and peers to provide safe and compassionate care that promotes informed patient choice.
