Educational Aims
This course will enable students to learn the fundamental principles of safe nursing care using a person centred approach. Nursing assessment and core practical skills will be taught in a simulated clinical environment with strong links made between theory and practice. The course content will be developed in subsequent courses (clinical learning 2 and 3) and mapped toconcepts and principles from other courses in the curriculum.Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate appropriate communication skills, recognise the barriers to communication and how to build appropriate professional relationships.
Demonstrate how to holistically assess a patient or service user, completing the relevant documentation as per professional guidelines throughout an individual’s lifespan.
Practice and develop skills in a number of essential nursing procedures relevant to practice in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses (NMC 2018).
Understand their individual role as a professional nurse, identifying their own accountability within the Nursing Midwifery Council Code: Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses and Midwives (NMC 2018) and begin to understand how this influences decisions made during the nursing process.
Engage with active reflection to demonstrate development of personal and professional values.
