Summary
This year-long module offers the opportunity for intensive development of performing skills. Students receive regular individual lessons across the year with their assigned vocal or instrumental studies, and aid preparation for performing beyond the undergraduate degree. As a general guideline, each end-of-year performance, except those in an improvisation-based jazz idiom, should usually include item(s) selected from the appropriate syllabus of professionally recognised diploma lists, including ABRSM, Trinity Laban and Rockschool or equivalent. Alternatively, students may substitute items of comparable difficulty which are not included in the syllabi, if deemed more appropriate by their teacher. The final recitals for Year 3 students should include at least two items taken from the current syllabus for the examined instrument at LRSM level or equivalent / as suggested by teacher. Recitalists are permitted to replace required items, as specified above, with items taken from a higher syllabus. Additionally, Year 3 students are encouraged to engage in researching and exploring a broad range of repertoire that goes beyond the syllabi of various music education bodies, ensuring that they experiment and become well-acquainted with a variety of musical, stylistic and technical approaches and idioms.
