Summary
This year-long module offers the opportunity for intensive development of performing skills. Students receive regular individual lessons across the year with their assigned vocal or instrumental tutor, with whom they agree on a selection of pieces to be studied. Beyond the one-to-one lessons, the module consists of a set of workshops, which tackle a variety of themes tailored to the course participants and aim to complement individual progression in vocal or instrumental studies.The end-of-year performance(see assessment) should usually include items selected from the appropriate syllabus of professionally recognised diploma lists, including ABRSM, Trinity, and Rockschool. Instrumental recital: two items at DipABRSM level or equivalent. Vocal recital: three items from the same syllabus. Further details can be found in the module handbook.
Target Students
Only available to Year 2 Single and Joint Hons Music students including Liberal Arts students who have passed MUSI1002 Level 1 Performance Year-Long.
Classes
- One 2-hour workshop each week for 12 weeks
- One 1-hour practicum each week for 18 weeks
Individual lessons may be supplemented by plenary sessions, professional workshop(s) and group workshops organised by students and teachers; plus individual practice.
Assessment
- 90% Practical: Assessed performance
- 10% Coursework 1

Educational Aims
To develop a capacity for instrumental or vocal performance normally beyond Grade 8 standard and sufficient in some cases to enable further development towards a professional standard.Objectives: to develop the appropriate instrumental or vocal technique, and to place it at the service of a developing ability to articulate and present appropriate musical interpretations in suitable repertoire.Learning Outcomes
