Summary
This module will introduce students to approaches to composing music that responds to and interacts with work by non-musical artists. Students will compose choral works on poetic texts and scores for short films.
Target Students
Available to all Year 2 students including Liberal Arts, exchange and subsidiary students who have successfully passed MUSI1010 Skills in Composition.
Classes
- One 1-hour workshop each week for 8 weeks
- One 3-hour un assigned each week for 2 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 8 weeks
8 x 2hr lecture; 8 x 1hr Workshop; 2 x 3hr Presentation. Lectures and workshops will run consecutively over a 3-hour block for 8 weeks. Presentations sessions will give students the opportunity to discuss their work-in-progress and receive formative feedback.
Assessment
- 50% Coursework 1: A notated film score of 2 minutes and 30 seconds to 4 minutes in duration accompanied by a commentary of 500-550 words explaining the approach to film scoring
- 50% Coursework 2: A notated choir composition of 2 minutes and 30 seconds to 3 minutes in duration, accompanied by a commentary of 500-550 words explaining the approach to text-setting
