Summary
Combining key components in digital technology and musicianship, Applied Digital Musicianship encourages music technology students to acquire basic digital skills that will help them explore a wide range of music making in the 21st century, through skill building in the applications of technology to the discipline of Music. This hands-on, project-based course introduces basic knowledge in digital music technology, sound practices and key issues related to the music making in the 21st century.
Target Students
Only available to Year 1 BA Hons Music and Music Technology students.
Classes
- One 1-hour workshop each week for 10 weeks
- One 1-hour lecture each week for 10 weeks
Students will require access to a DAW (computer with audio sequencing programme)
Assessment
- 100% Portfolio: Portfolio of technical assignments comprised of sequencing; audio capture; audio production
Assessed by end of autumn semester
Educational Aims
To enable students to explore the possibilities that embellishing music performance with music technology can bring. This involves working collaboratively, developing communicative skills in the joint creation of new projects; developing performance skills whilst working with a variety of music technology equipment to realise a coherent and engaging performance.Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
· Acquire basic knowledge in digital technology in music practice.
· Appreciate key issues related to the music in the 21st century.
· Use music software and hardware to enhance their musical learning.
· Identify, utilise and explore the advantages of music technology.
