Summary

This module will introduce ergonomics (human factors) encompassing different aspects of product design and other applications. The course will demonstrate why ergonomics input to design is important. The module will teach the practical application of user centred research methods, also covering research ethics and statistical methods to analyse results. 

Re-assessment 
Students who fail this module overall and are required to complete a re-assessment will be re-assessed by coursework or exam. The re-assessment mark for the module will be a combination of the marks from coursework passed first time and the coursework which have been re-assessed.

Educational Aims

Education Aims: This module will introduce ergonomics (human factors) encompassing different aspects of product design and other applications. It will give fundamental knowledge in research methods, ethics andanalysis.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will be able to:

LO1 - Apply a range of human factors / ergonomics tools and methods to evaluate design interventions. (AHEP 12,16)

LO2 - Analyse and extract relevant ergonomic data to inform design for users. (AHEP 4,11)

LO3 – Apply relevant statistical techniques used in the application of user-based research within the design process. (AHEP 1)

LO4 - Understand ethical requirements of user-focused research. (AHEP 8,11)

LO5 - Apply the University guidance and procedures for obtaining ethical approval for user-based research. (AHEP 8)
