Summary
This module aims to further develop the essential skills and knowledge required by modern industrial designers. It will widen and deepen commercial understanding and professionalism among the students. Building on the foundations of ecology and sustainability established in the first module, this course will delve into understanding the impact of our designs and strategies to minimise environmental footprints. Additionally, it will help prepare students for internship placements and careers in the design industry.
Students who fail this module and are required to undergo re-assessment will need to retake all failed assessment components. The final mark for the module will be calculated by combining the original marks from passed components together with the new marks from the re-assessed components.
Target Students
Students undertaking Product Design and Manufacture.
Classes
- One 3-hour workshop each week for 10 weeks
- One 3-hour lecture each week for 22 weeks
Assessment
- 30% Exhibition Viva: PDM x EEE Smart Robot Project
- 30% Coursework: Personal Portfolio
- 30% Written Exam (2-hour): written exam
Assessed in both autumn & spring semest

LO4 - Apply computational-based skills to common design tasks such as digital modelling. (AHEP 3)
LO5 - Apply creative understanding to aid in the design process and the communication of work. (AHEP 17)
LO6 - Create a portfolio of work that will be used to communicate design skills and reflect on personal practice. (AHEP 17,18)
