- Momentum flows including linear momentum, friction factors & pipe flows
- Heat Transfer
Re-assessment
Students who fail this module overall and are required to complete a re-assessment will be re-assessed by exam. The re-assessment exam mark alone will be used to determine whether students satisfy progression requirements.
Target Students
Primarily for 1st year UG mechanical and manufacturing engineering students in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering.
Assessment
- 10% Laboratory 1: Laboratory 1 - LO1
- 30% Exam 1 (1-hour): Exam - LO1, LO2
- 60% Exam 2 (2-hour): Exam - LO1, LO2
Assessed in both autumn & spring semest
Educational Aims
The aim of this module is to introduce students to fundamental concepts and principles of thermofluids and their applications to simple engineering problems.Learning Outcomes
LO1 - Comprehend fundamental concepts of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics as they apply to simple Engineering systems. - AHEP4: 1, 13
LO2 - Apply knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics to the solution of simple problems - AHEP4: 1, 13
LO3 - Conduct laboratory investigations of fluid mechanics and thermodynamic phenomena. - AHEP4: 12
