Summary

This advanced module will be your final step towards fluency. We'll continue to improve your four key language skills of reading, listening, writing and speaking through class discussions and the use of relevant texts such as complex newspaper articles, detailed radio and TV programmes and increasingly sophisticated fiction.
You'll also study translation and work towards professional standards giving you a solid grounding for a career or further studies in translation.

Target Students

Available for Year 4 students of German and other students who have completed MLAC2124 German 2, or MLAC2130 German 2 Beginners.

Educational Aims

This module aims to take you to a level commensurate with C1/C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference. As such, you will be able to express, in written and spoken German, attitudes, feelings, opinions and arguments with a near-native degree of fluency, grammatical accuracy, complexity and lexical variation. In terms of comprehension, you will be able to understand both the explicit and implied meaning of written, audio and audio-visual texts, of varying lengths, produced for native German-speakers, on a wide range of subjects. In addition to obtaining advanced levels of competence in German comprehension and expression, you will develop to a high-level your ability to translate texts into and out of English.

•the development of comprehension, reading and writing skills of an advanced order (A1, A2)
•the development of the understanding of contemporary issues relating to the German-speaking world and society in general through oral and aural work (A4, A6)
