Summary
The basic structure of the language will be extended and reinforced through topics related to everyday life. All four skills of speaking, reading, writing and listening are covered. The grammatical structures acquired in 1A will be consolidated and developed further. Students are also required to undertake a programme a programme of autonomous learning.
Target Students
Those who have taken the previous module 1A, and/or are at a beginner level in the target language: native speakers or graduates of their mother/father tongue language secondary schools are not advised to take. This module is open to all students provided their home department approves.

Classes
- One 3-hour lecture each week for 12 weeks
Assessment
- 30% In Class Test: In class coursework – Once a semester: Listening (30 mins)
- 30% Speaking Task: Group Speaking Task (Q&A)
- 40% Written Exam: Essay Writing (SPR semester) (1 hour)

Educational Aims
Students will learn and practice the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing together with basic grammatical structures. This will enable them to manipulate the language and participate effectively in everyday social situations. Full use will be made of communicative methods. Students will further develop autonomy in language learning under the guidance of their language tutor.Learning Outcomes
