- A review of anatomy and physiology of the neonate
- Care of the critically ill/deteriorating neonate
- Systematic examination (NIPE) – eyes, hips, heart, genitalia
- Neuro Behavioural Physiological assessment Neonate- NBPN
- The importance of physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual factors in the care of the neonate
- Communication and counselling – delivery of unexpected/significant news
- Complex cases/case studies
- Expansion on routine pathways/referrals
- Palliative care of the neonate/bereavement care

200 hours of learning delivered by a variety of methods, including self-directed study
Assessment
- 100% Assessment: Portfolio of up to 3,000 words to assess knowledge and understanding
- Assessment: Evidence of NIPE Examinations

Explore abnormal conditions that may present in the neonate to include epidemiology and risk factors
Critically explore evidence-based practice related to the systematic examination of the newborn

Critically reflect upon systematic examinations of the newborn to include personal competency, professional and personal confidence in decision making and arranging appropriate referral

Appraise strategies utilised in relation to decision making processes surrounding the examination of the newborn
Appraise appropriate communication and counselling skills in relation to delivering information to parents following the examination
