Summary
This module provides a practical introduction to personal and professional development (PPD) activities for students enrolled on the BSc in Medical Physiology and Therapeutics. The module seeks to prepare students for the types of PPD activities that they will be likely to undertake as graduates in a number of disciplines, including in healthcare science in the NHS setting. There is an emphasis on building on earlier skills modules to further develop core practical skills/competencies related to employability and the use of reflective practice, action planning and analysis of outcomes to monitor personal and professional development.
Target Students
Students on Part II of the BSc in Medical Physiology and Therapeutics.
Classes
Delivery will be by a combination of (online or face-to-face) seminars and meetings with personal tutors, careers advisors and project supervisors throughout the year. Students will be required to keep a PPD portfolio & maintain a record of practical skills/competencies gained over the course of the year. The portfolio must contain copies of coursework & action plans agreed during meetings with their personal tutor.
Assessment
- 50% Written Assignment: 1500 word - reflective essay
- 15% Portfolio: Essential elements present
- 35% Written Assignment: 1000 words - reflective statement on peer feedback and teamwork.

Educational Aims
This module aims to equip students with skills in reflective practice and action planning that they will subsequently use in their work following graduation. In particular the module will prepare students for participation in appraisal and revalidation procedures that some of them may undertake in the future.Learning Outcomes
