Summary
This module provides students with the opportunity for completing any outstanding clinical practice related Standards of Proficiency required for Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) approval and any placement competences and experiences required for British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Clinical Psychologist status, which have not been achieved previously.
Relationship to External Bodies: Approved by Health & Care Professions Council. Accredited by British Psychological Society.
Target Students
Students registered on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
Classes
- Three 7-hour-30-minute placements each week for 7 weeks
Supervised clinical practice 3-5 days/week, supplemented by placement review meetings, private study, case studies, reflective practice groups and peer support.
Assessment
- 100% Assignment: Portfolio of Proficiencies
Assessed by end of summer vacation
Educational Aims
This module ensures that students have acquired all the skills and competences needed to complete the requirements for registration with the HCPC and eligibility to be a Chartered Clinical Psychologist. Any remaining gaps in skills and experience will be identified and one of the placements planned to accommodate student needs and to ensure experience meets all the requirements for qualification.Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding of:
· The theoretical background, evidence base, and social context regarding the chosen specialist area.
· How the practice of Clinical Psychology needs to be adapted in order to deliver the specialist approach or
meet the needs inherent in the chosen specialist area/service setting or the specific client group.
Intellectual skills – the ability to:
· Apply the knowledge base of a specialised approach or area to the practice of clinical psychology in that approach or area.
· Integrate a clinical psychology perspective with the demands and priorities of the specialist area or client group.
Professional and Practical skills – the ability to:
· Carry out assessment, formulation, intervention, and evaluation in a specialist theoretical approach or
with a specific client group or in a specialist service setting.
· Decide on the appropriate balance of direct intervention and teaching, training, and consultancy in
relation to the specialist approach, area, or client group.
In addition, any Learning Outcomes (knowledge and understanding, intellectual skills, professional and practical skills, and transferable skills) not covered in previous placement modules or not demonstrated with the full range of client groups and service settings.
