Summary

The module Quantitative and Qualitative Methods for Mental Health Research is designed so that students can acquire the concepts, skills and knowledge required to conduct and evaluate both qualitative and quantitative research in mental health and explore concepts and principles of psychiatry and applied psychology to enhance their evidence-based practice. In so doing students will attain some of the outcomes specified by the GMC in Outcomes for Graduates (2020) in the area of Professional knowledge. This module will build upon content covered in the Evidence-Based Medicine module and align with the project module that students take at the same time, but will apply this knowledge to a greater depth and with a mental health focus to be able to understand, apply, and evaluate research. Students will acquire competence as intelligent consumers as well as practitioners of research both within and beyond the domain of mental health. The module will consist of a series of workshops, practical exercises, and an assignment.
