Summary
The module covers special topics in Biomedical Sciences including law and ethics, lab instruments and lab management for biomedical practitioners. Firstly, it provides a basic understanding of different aspects of Malaysia law in relation to health professions, describe the foundations of ethics and subsequently identify and address ethical issues in the conduct of biomedical research.
In this module, students will learn about the various instruments used in biomedical laboratory and its applications. Besides, the module also discusses the role and functions of the manager in the proper management of activities associated with the efficient running of a laboratory and achieving certification. Teamwork, laboratory safety, good laboratory practice, quality and ethical issues in laboratory practice are discussed. The teaching-learning activities of this module emphasize more on the real life experience that may not be obtained from the textbooks.

Educational Aims
This module aims to introduce general aspects of health-related laws in Malaysia, philosophy of ethics, basic aspects of professional conduct, ethics in the context of scientific research, and a variety of ethical concerns associated with biomedical research practice, including assisted reproductive technologies, cloning technologies, intellectual property rights, scientific publications, and other related developments.Students will also learn general principles of laboratory use, safety requirements, regulations and lab management, as it is very crucial that all laboratory users understand the importance of governing the use of laboratory instruments and adhere to the safety precautions. From the module, students able to navigate the numerous legal, ethical and quality issues that health care professionals face every day. Topics given are based upon real-world scenarios and dilemmas from a variety of health care practitioners. Through the debate and presentation from the different perspectives in the module, students able to develop critical thinking skills to learn how to resolve real-life situations and theoretical scenarios, as well as more appreciate on how legal, ethical and quality issues are relevant to the health care profession in which they will practice upon graduation.Learning Outcomes
