Summary
Written work on a topic determined by the candidate in consultation with his/her PhD supervisor(s). The topic will normally relate to an area relevant to the candidate's doctorate. Supervisors of this dissertation will normally be the supervisors of the student's doctorate.

Only available to PGR students on U8PMTLHW3, U8PMTLHW6, OR U8PMTLHBUS PhD Mental Health and Wellbeing.

This module is taught through a combination of supervisions and independent study.

Educational Aims
To allow students to investigate a discrete area of research relevant to mental health and well-being, and/or to pilot research techniques relevant to their doctoral studies.Learning Outcomes
a. Knowledge and understanding:

b. Intellectual skills:
- Able to engage in significant independent work in a systematic manner.
- Able to present the results of reading and reflection in written form.
- Able to plan a distinct course of independent study with long-term goals in mind.
c. Professional practical skills:
- These will vary depending on the dissertation, but may include an ability to make discriminating use of a range of library and information resources in order to identify appropriate source material, compile bibliographies, inform research.
- Able to use specific research methodologies.
- Able to show independence of thought, and critical self-awareness about one's own beliefs and commitments.
- Able to communicate ideas, arguments, principles, theories and develop sophisticated argument.
